Pros: Acceleration, torque, and FUN!Cons: less MPG's, potential for incorrect installation, and tuner needed on some vehicles.
I have to say that I am really glad that I purchased the Ford Racing Gears. After doing a lot of research, I decided to wake up my Ford Mustang. I have a 2012 Mustang 3.7L V6 with a manual transmission. The car came with 2.73 gears in the rear end. The car always got good mileage, but it never felt like 300HP. I was averaging 27-28 MPG with the 2.73 rear end. I swapped out the gears about a month ago and it definitely woke up the car. After 5 weeks of driving, I can say that my average MPG has dropped to 23-24 MPG with the 3.73 gears. Seat of the pants acceleration is way up. The MT82 six speed on the mustang has relatively short gears ... after doing the swap, I wish I would have gone with the 3.55 or even 3.31. The engine revs a little too much like a 4 cylinder on the highway for my taste.
Note to V6 owners: This has nothing to do with the gears, but Ford put a cheap driveshaft in the V6 mustangs and due to this, mine has always had some drivetrain vibration in the shifter around 2500 RPM (Many other V6 owners have the same vibration). 80 MPH is right around this 2500 RPM now in 6th gear and I wish I would have put the 3.55 gears to avoid this vibration. I would highly suggest putting in a new driveshaft or just get a V8 ... I'm trying to do the second. Before the swap (2nd gear=80MPH max). With the 3.73 gears (2nd gear=60MPH max)
